Bemni + Saron (wedding) – Kansas City – Post 1 of 2

(Post 1 of 2) I was in Kansas City a few weekends ago photographing a wedding of my dear friend Bemni, who I know from our church in Colorado Springs. He met his bride, Saron, through a friend last year and the are both originally from Ethiopia. It was been 48 hours filled with new experiences and meeting some of the most friendly people I’ve ever had a chance to meet. Their hugs are so welcoming and immediately we’re friends. I’ve loved experiencing their culture and traditions — and of course, the 4 times I ate Ethiopian food. The best. There have been many moments that stood out to me this weekend but one of the Ethiopian traditions I particularly enjoyed was when the groom sees his bride for the first time (3 photos of it below). After the groom and bride get ready in different locations, the groom goes to the bride’s home. So many people came along – the cars just kept arriving and people kept coming in. The home was packed and no one cared. They were all there to celebrate. There was worship, singing and clapping and cheering. Then the groom arrives. The family tries to […]

Amanda and Cliff – Winter Engagement Session (Colorado Springs, Colorado)

Amanda and Cliff are getting married early this fall, but wanted a different look for their engagement photos! We had fun on a snowy weekend afternoon, and it was cold and windy, but Amanda rocked the wind-blown look especially with her incredible hair! Looking forward to seeing you both in September!

Erin and Jeff (engagement)

I’ll be photographing Erin and Jeff’s wedding in Grand Lake, Colorado this coming June and when we started talking engagement photos, Erin knew she wanted something opposite from what her wedding photos would look like. She wanted snow. And as it would happen, we seem to be having the least amount of snow possible this year! We waited, and waited and finally we snagged an opportiunity to take some photos when there was a snow a night or two before. Thank you, Colorado, for your matchless blue skies during winter. It provide the perfect backdrop. They also wanted a barn and trees. Done and done. I think I delivered. And Erin and Jeff delivered on lots of fun and genuine laughter; just how it should be. We took off for the afternoon and headed west into the mountains and snow where I knew of this little secret spot with no one else around. Oh, and they brought their dog Fluffy. Cute boots and hats are always encouraged for engagement photos!   Thanks Erin and Jeff for the fun afternoon! Excited to photograph your wedding in June!

Toni + Jordan (engagements) Boulder, Colorado

Photographed by Samantha Kelly When I first met Toni and Jordan, I was struck by how comfortable their love seemed — so easy and wonderful. Their conversation flowed easily, their smiles were plentiful and I spied the sparks of excitement as they shared with me the plans for their special day. I could tell this couple had a great story to tell and I wanted to photograph that story! I was beyond honored when they asked me to do their engagement and wedding photos. I made the beautiful drive from Colorado Springs to Boulder and met these two at a Starbucks near the University of Colorado, Boulder campus. If you have never had the pleasure of visiting this campus, it is stunning and reason enough to visit Boulder. As we walked and looked for nooks and crannies to snap a few photos in, Toni filled me in on her and Jordan’s history. They basically grew up together! A close friendship that blossomed into a deep love, she said no one was surprised when that happened, but everyone was pleased. I had such a fun time with this couple their session was filled with lots of laughter, fun, and of course love. They wanted a few options for their Save […]

Ellen + Andy (engagement – Colorado Springs, CO)

Warm, happy sunshine + a couple in love who happen to be getting married this next spring = Ellen and Andy’s engagement session. We spent the afternoon around Cheyenne Canyon and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these two. Very much looking forward to their wedding in the spring of 2013! – Megan

Carol + James (engagement – Colorado Springs, Co)

I wake up at around 5:30am every morning so I can get a little quite time in before my house becomes crazy with requests from my boys and the day fully begins. This past week when I’ve been waking up, I can hear the birds chirping and it’s the most glorious sound. I love mornings and I love that we’re heading into summer. Our calendar is getting busy with engagement sessions and family photo shoots now that the trees and flowers are blooming and I am so looking forward to this season! A few weeks back, I met with Carol and James to do their engagement photos at Red Rocks park. It was an incredible afternoon with warm sunshine and a slight breeze. If you know Colorado, we get a fair amount of wind here, especially in the afternoons, so any time it is calm and the sun is out, it’s close to perfection. They are getting married in June in Southern Colorado and I’m so excited for their unique, very awesome wedding location. You’ll have to check back in June to see some of their photos. Until then, these should hold you over! See you two in June! Megan

Christie and Justin (Colorado Springs, CO)

I had the opportunity to meet a fun couple this past weekend. They drove down from Wyoming and I shot their engagement photos around Manitou and Downtown Colorado Springs. Despite waking up and seeing that it was 15 degrees out (ouch!), it quickly warmed up as the sun came out and we had a blast. They also wanted to bring their dog Beau for some of the photos, which I always encourage. =) And the grand finale.. It was so great to meet you both. Thanks for making the trip down! Megan

Amy and Sam (engagements – Denver, CO)

We’re shooting weddings this summer and fall for some incredibly fun couples and Amy and Sam are no exception. They are getting married in Denver this October and wanted to do their engagement shoot around downtown Denver. We had to cancel the first time due to crazy lightening storms so we opted for a morning/afternoon shoot this time around to miss the afternoon storms. It worked well, except it was HOT! Amy and Sam were such troopers and Samantha and I had such a blast taking their photos. At one point, Samantha, Amy and Sam all jumped in the fountain to cool off and we continued the shoot there. Kudos to Samantha for taking such awesome photos — she had her first baby 3 weeks prior to this shoot and did great. I was 22 weeks pregnant at the time, so I imagine we looked a little silly but I think the result turned out wonderfully. We work well under pressure and crazy circumstances. 😉 Looking forward to seeing you both again in October! Megan and Samantha

Erika and Grady (engagements – Colorado Springs, CO)

I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to photographing Erika and Grady’s wedding. These two are so much fun to be around and they are extremely easy to photograph. They enjoy being together and that makes my job easy! They have three fur-babies… Gordy, Gus and the other dog’s name also starts with a “G” but I can’t remember his name. Sorry Erika!  It was great to include them in their engagement shoot since the dogs are such a huge part of Erika and Grady’s life. I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon together. And the pups patiently waited while we took photos… they were glad when it was their turn. See you two in September! Megan

Tiffany and Shawn (engagagements – Pueblo, CO)

I had a blast a few weeks back with Tiffany and Shawn in Pueblo at the Airplane Museum. Shawn’s a big airplane buff and they thought it might be fun to do their engagement session there. They are getting married in just a few short weeks so I thought I better get this posted before I was too far behind! When we went out back there was this awesome vintage ORANGE truck… I could have taken photos there all day long. See you two very soon! Megan
