If you’ve ever wanted to meet a real life superhero, you just need to meet a mom. I love birth photography for so many reasons, but the real reason is because this amazing woman carries a baby for many months, her body changing, moods changing, and if it’s her first, her life really changes (as does for the dad, but this is about moms at the moment. ;). It’s an incredibly selfless act to bring a child into the world and being a first hand witness to a life being born beings me incredible, immeasurable joy. It’s no doubt God is in that very moment and each of those moments are so very different from the next. It is a huge honor for someone to ask me to photograph their child being born. So many things to consider on a personal level for each of my clients, and I am so thankful Ann and Joe trusted me to be there. Not only was it a wonderful experience, I felt like I left with two new friends.
Ann is one of those superheroes. She called me last Wednesday saying she had been having contractions since about 8am. We prearranged that she would call me again when she was having them closer together, or at the hospital before getting admitted. I stayed close to the phone all day as she started her labor at home. Time passed and we kept checking in with one another. About 2am on Thursday, she texted me and we headed to the hospital. She continued to have contractions there, but it had slowed down considerably, so we all headed home. Another day passed, as Ann continued to labor at home. Finally at 10pm on Thursday, it was go time.
A huge shout out to her friend Emily who is a massage therapist here in Colorado Springs and was there to help the entire time she was in labor.
And almost 40 hours of labor, little Samuel Adventure arrived. If you know Joe and Ann, you know the name is a perfect fit.
“Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”

Ann and Joe, thank you for having me photograph such an important day in your life! Ann, you are an incredibly strong woman and I admire you! You are already such a great mom to little Samuel and he is so blessed to have you. Joe, you were an awesome coach and it was so wonderful to see you both pull together and rely on one another during this “adventure”. Cheering you both on through the months and years as you watch him grow into the little man God made him to be.
